Don't Forget To Smile

September 16, 2007 | Psalms 43:5

Have you gotten to a point in your life where understanding seems but a fleeting situation where the trials and tribulations of what is going on in your life right now drown out that realization of who you are what you need to become? We all face it on a daily basis, but the thing to realize here is that God is there for you and can give you a life of wisdom beyond yourself.

There is somebody waiting to help you through the dark times and carry you across the sands of life. He can give you the peace that you are looking for. He can guide you on a path that gives you a brighter future. That man is Jesus Christ.

Psalms 43:5 O my soul, why be so gloomy and discouraged? Trust in God! I shall again praise him for his wondrous help; he will make me smile again, for he is my God! TLB

Now you can sit there and feel sorry for yourself because you haven't gotten the breaks that you see others getting. But are they really better off than you? Can you honestly say that there is a person on this earth that has a better life?

Those that cheat, and steal, and lie to others, so they can have a better life are only deluding themselves. They are the dishonest that have ill-gotten gain. They are the ones that eventually will be eaten alive by guilt and remorse to the breaking point. They are the one's that are void of Gods love. They are the ones that not only don't feel the love of God in their hearts, but they face the blackened abyss as they plummet ever farther into it.

But that's not the kind of person that you want to be. They don't want to be that way either, they just don't realize it yet. But you do because you know that God will help in times of need and will shower you with His love.

It reminds me of the Eiffel Tower. It rises above a great city, but yet it is nothing more than metal. Nothing more than hardened steel, but yet it gets so much admiration from the millions that have gazed upon it as if it were the most beautiful sight they have ever seen.

How much more important to others lives are you? The answer to that lies within. You are better than hardened steel. You can rise above the fear and the guilt that may be hardening you right now. The elevator that rides to the top of yourself has so many good things to think up that it will give you understanding if only you will ask God to fill it with the wisdom that you desire on a daily basis.

There is that fork in the road in your life that you face on a daily basis. You can take the elevator to the top of something that others feel is glorious or you can plummet into the abyss wondering if you could have made a difference in at least one other persons life.

I have heard it said many times that the wings of a butterfly, if changed, could cause a hurricane. I am not sure I believe that, but yet it makes me wonder that often the littlest of things or situations can cause a massive difference to the world. You may think that a simple hello has no purpose and that it falls short of what it could accomplish, or maybe you think that smiling at a stranger is just a waste of effort. Because, you say, what difference could it possibly make.

Titus 1:9 Their belief in the truth that they have been taught must be strong and steadfast so that they will be able to teach it to others and show those who disagree with them where they are wrong. TLB

But let's take a scenario into consideration here. Let's say you are walking down a street and you see a woman who is looking down and just before you walk past her she looks up and you smile at her. You see tears in her eyes briefly as you walk by as she is grieving the loss of a loved one. She sees your smile. All of a sudden she realizes that no matter how down she feels that there is hope in the smile of a stranger. In that moment She thinks that maybe a smiley face card would be great to send her father who lost his wife. He receives the card and it brightens his day so much that he decides to send a thousand dollars to a breast cancer foundation in memory of his wife's death because he feels that giving will bring a smile to his face. That donation brings the world a little closer to finding the cure and in turn makes the father who lost his wife that much more positive. The next day the father goes into work as CEO of a large corporation and because of his influence on the Board convinces this multi-national corporation to make a one million dollar donation to fight cancer. That donation is then taken and a new genius in the world finally comes up with a drug that makes a lot of lives happier and saves thousands of lives. And all this because somebody decided to smile at a stranger.

Now I am not going to say that this is a true story, but what if it did actually happen? Just imagine, for a moment, that there is some shred of truth to this story. It really makes you wonder how often some tiny bit of kindness has caused a hurricane of love or incredible fortune to somebody who really needs it.

You never know until you try. Try to look beyond yourself next time you are in despair. Also look inside yourself for the strength to endure and look up to God for guidance and love, because He is there waiting to carry you as he jumps over the abyss and welcomes you to a life of love and caring. That life is with Him by your side.

And all you have to do is believe that God can make a difference in your life. He can give you hope. He can give you an abiding love. He can nourish your body with a life-giving goodness that surpasses all others. And all you need is a little faith to ward off the evilness that often permeates this world and rise above it. Let God be a part of your life and see what happens. OH! and don't forget to smile.

Prayer: Dear Lord, Help me to smile more and brighten up this world. Help me to look outside myself for ways to help others and give to people the love that you have given so freely to me. I thank you Lord for all your many blessings. Amen.

Benediction: Now, Lord, Bless us in our daily lives. Help us to smell the roses whenever possible, to shine our light on those less fortunate than us, and lead us in the path we should go. For you are the light that keeps our path well lit. Help us to follow it, until we meet you, in a land where milk and honey abound, a place where our most wonderful dreams are fulfilled. Amen.

Hi, my name is Bryan, a messenger of hope who would love to hear from you. God Bless.
