July 24, 2005 | Colossians 4:2
Let me go over a Bible verse that I mentioned in my last sermon:
Colossians 4:2 Don't be weary in prayer; keep at it; watch for God's answers, and remember to be thankful when they come. TLB
So in other words God gives us answers to pray, but we have to watch for them. Like I mentioned in my last sermon, that there was a person who prayed and they think that God finally answered them six months later by giving them a revelation of sorts, or they were basically hit on the head with the answer after many times of prayer.
But yet in the verse above, The Bible states "Don't be weary in prayer."
Matthew 6:7 "Don't recite the same prayer over and over as the heathen do, who think prayers are answered only by repeating them again and again. Remember, your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! TLB
So, in other words, don't keep praying the same thing over and over again.
What it all boils down to is maybe God keeps answering prayer in subtle ways over and over again and then after six months, He may hit us over the head with the mallet of reality by giving us a nicely cut and dry answer. He may do this because of our own ignorance.
So what do we do when we cannot understand the subtle hints? We pray for guidance. We take the time to seek the answers.
Now to a lot of you, you may not have the time to look for answers. But that would be like being asked a question by your young daughter, and just walking away without any kind of answer for her whatsoever. Except in the case of prayer, we are the daughter because we are ignorant to the answers and we let the answer walk away without taking the answer to the Lord's counsel to a new level.
You cannot expect everything to come to you from God to be easy. In life there are no easy answers. That is why life is such a challenge. So how do we get these answers to prayer?
It is so easy to get on your knees and pray, or to briefly pray when waiting in a doctor's office, or to pray when we are driving with our eyes open of course. But we need to include another element in our prayer.
Wait a minute here. Pray with our eyes open. Our eyes open to the answers. That is the additional element. Our eyes open and our ears open as well. Seek the answers to prayer. Don't wait for them to come to you. Seek Gods answers.
You could try to find the answers to prayer in a field of cotton or at a waterfall falling from some river of melted snow. When we become one with nature, so to speak, we can find the answers to prayer within Gods creation. There are a lot of places to find answers. Some them may be attached to coincidences in life or through dreams.
Looking for answers to prayer is like a vision quest. A voyage to another galaxy of our minds. It is this often forgotten universe within us that we do not often explore. But if we do not stop to explore it, we may never be able to tap into God's love and His understanding as much as we would like.
We can choose to be ignorant and look for the easy answer or we can decide that diligently looking for the answers may be the best investment of time we can make.
Prayer: Dear Lord, sometimes I get lazy or too busy to look for the answers to the prayers that I send your way. Help me to look for answers in your creation. Help me in this coming week by guiding me on the path to your answers to my prayers. I thank you for all your many blessings. Amen.
Benediction: Now, Lord, Bless us in our daily lives. Help us to smell the roses whenever possible, to shine our light on those less fortunate than us, and lead us in the path we should go. For you are the light that keeps our path well lit. Help us to follow it, until we meet you, in a land where milk and honey abound, a place where our most wonderful dreams are fulfilled. Amen.
Hi, my name is Bryan, a messenger of hope who would love to hear from you. God Bless.
