November 14, 2004 | Link To Us | Index | This sermon is for your spiritual edification and to spread a little hope and cheer. Genesis 32:22-30

Do you ever feel like a rag doll that was dropped into the toilet only to be fished out later by a passersby and thrown on some shelf to rot? I realize this is a rather morbid way of explaining how a person may feel. But look at the world. There are people that are actually being supported for doing bad things to people. Oh, you may not hear it on the news or read it in a newspaper. Quite often because it is covered up.

There are dealings under the table. People are getting away with the most heinous of crimes so they can do it again and again. And we sit by the sidelines too self-absorbed with our own lives to give a crap. Then somebody takes something or someone away from us that we hold so dear, and all of a sudden we care.

But then how can we care about a person we never met? We take a minute to read something horrible in the news, and then we reach for the coffee to keep us awake so we can keep bringing home the bacon.

Where does it stop? Where can we go from here?

I think we need more often to look outside ourselves and into a world that often doesn't care that we do. But in order to rid this planet of crime we have to ask ourselves one thing. What will it take for me to care before I do something about it?

But taking the law into your own hands is very bad, which of course is putting it mildly. Because trying to rid the world of crime by committing it does not make a person to be any better than the person who commits the worse of crimes. Sometimes being a vigilante could even be worse because a person could hurt others beyond repair.

So what do you do? What can you do?

Now I probably know what you may be thinking right now. This is supposed to be a Christian sermon and this is the part where the preacher states that you need to pray and give God your time. Well, you're right. But sometimes you have to call on a higher power to seek the guidance you need to make the world a better place.

Because without some spiritual base, there is no way of making the world a better place. You have to believe in something. Otherwise you are going through life not really accomplishing anything more than putting food on the table and an occasional vacation to an exotic place where the cares of the world don't matter.

We spend so much of our lives in denial. We try to ignore the nose on our face to spite a world that doesn't care.

But yet what would happen if we started to care? What if we made a commitment of some kind to show the world that we care?

But wait a minute here. Why do we need to impress anybody but ourselves? So it is not a matter of trying to show the world that we care, but show to ourselves that we do really does matter.

So what can you do right now that will show others that you care? Pray. Give God your time. Because until you do, you will be just trudging through the muck of every day life waiting for whatever will inevitably come your way. And that is sad. Let God be a part of your life. It is the one very good thing you can do with your life that will have very far-reaching implications that you will never be able to under stand in many lifetimes.

Prayer: Dear Lord, we are going through life, often without the time to come to you for help. Not because we don't really have the time, but because we may not want to make the time in the rat race known as the planet earth. Help us to reach within ourselves and to You for the answers. Thank you for all your many blessings. Amen.

Benediction: Now, Lord, Bless us in our daily lives. Help us to smell the roses whenever possible, to shine our light on those less fortunate than us, and lead us in the path we should go. For you are the light that keeps our path well lit. Help us to follow it, until we meet you, in a land where milk and honey abound, a place where our most wonderful dreams are fulfilled. Amen.

Hi, my name is Bryan, a messenger of hope who would love to hear from you. God Bless.
