The Teachings of Christ are our Street Maps

July 25, 2004 | Link To Us | Index | This sermon is for your spiritual edification and to spread a little hope and cheer. Romans 5:11

Where have all the good times gone? They have gone to the stresses of every day life. We all have such busy lives. I sometimes wonder if there is some cloaked alien race in outer space close to our planet that look down on us, observing our actions. They may see us like billions of ants running around, scurrying about on a great quest to go nowhere.

But seriously though, we would all like to think we are going somewhere, but often do not have any idea where we are actually going. There are no road maps in life that tell us where we should go. Let me correct that, there is. It's called the Bible. But we often dismiss this idea because we are so busy scurrying about like billions of ants.

But how do we stop this insanity? How do we figure out our true calling? Well, it doesn't happen while spending time in our daily schedulers trying to figure out how we can fit an ice cream social with an eight-year-old daughter on a Sunday afternoon and still be able to schedule enough time for preparation for that big meeting on Monday. It doesn't happen while we are trying to figure out how to go to a movie with the wife and still be able to take time for golf with the Bro's. And it certainly doesn't happen while we are getting two root canals done on our nine-year-old son and still be able to make that interview appointment just one hour from now.

But yet we try our darnedest to make it happen not truly understanding why we are doing it, but just taking it for granted that it has to be done and that all this hard work is for some purpose somehow unbeknownst to us.

So how do we stop all this madness? How do we keep ourselves from making the same mistakes over and over again? We can do it through a lasting relationship with God.

But what is a lasting relationship with God? It isn't pencilling in a couple of minutes three weeks from Tuesday. It is made by making a true commitment to take the time to pray to God on a consistent basis. You can do that. I mean you have done it before, right?

You go to work every day, that is consistent. You eat meals every day, and that is usually consistent, unless of course you are on the run and have to snag a donut for lunch. You go to bed every night (regardless of whether or not you actually fall asleep) and that is consistent.

So you are not incapable have having a lasting relationship with God. You don't forget to go to bed at night, so why are you forgetting to fellowship with God on a consistent basis? You have no excuses. You can not say your dog ate your prayers. "Oh, My Gosh!" you might say, "A meteor came down and hit me on the head today and I forgot all about praying to God." Now come on, that is a pretty lame excuse when you really think about it. So what is your excuse?"

I know, I know there is this thing you have to do and that thing you have to do. And you have all these other things you have to do. But ask yourself are these things that you have scheduled as important as a lasting relationship with God? Being that God knows all and sees all, a lasting relationship with him could be the most rewarding time spent that you could ever schedule time for. So what is your excuse for not praying?

There IS NO reason!

So don't just pencil some time in for God. Actually make a consistent commitment. And you just may be rewarded beyond your wildest dreams. God will give you so much love. And of course, don't forget to thank Him for that love.

Prayer: Dear Lord, first of all, thank you for all your many blessings in my life. Second of all, thank you for your love. And third, and not least, help me and remind me to spend some time with you every day. Amen.

Benediction: Now, Lord, Bless us in our daily lives. Help us to smell the roses whenever possible, to shine our light on those less fortunate than us, and lead us in the path we should go. For you are the light that keeps our path well lit. Help us to follow it, until we meet you, in a land where milk and honey abound, a place where our most wonderful dreams are fulfilled. Amen.

Hi, my name is Bryan, a messenger of hope who would love to hear from you. God Bless.
